3 pounds of asparagus in under 3 minutes!
I am in the midst of training for the Deep Fried Asparagus Eating Championship. The contest takes place April 26th at the Stockton Asparagus Festival. I currently hold the record for deep fried asparagus, 8.6 pounds in 10 minutes. This year, my biggest competition will come from Pat Bertoletti. Pat is a great eater and whenever I get lazy he pulls off an upset. The chances of Pat walking away with a win in this contest are slim to none. I will let you all know how the contest goes down.

Can't wait for Saturday.

I probably couldn't bring myself to eat one OUNCE of asparagus... impressive.
Is there anything that there is no way that you would refuse to eat or really just hate eating? -
There are only a couple contests that left a bad taste in my mouth. Vienna Sausages and Jalapenos... If I could do it over again, I would avoid those contests.
I try to stay away from sweets (ice cream, Chocolate). I believe a massive amount of pure sugar is a lot harder on my body than any normal food.
MLE (Major League Eating) wanted us to eat whole, boiled cow tounge and I had to say NO. In order for me to do good in a contest I have to be familiar with the food.
Thanks for the support!!

right sweets, the body and organs would have a terrible time trying to metabolize all that sugar
-
Can't blame you on that last one at all.
I'm a picky eater though haha
Thanks for the reply, good stuff and good luck. -
Good luck in the contest

His pee must smell for weeks

NO JOKE!!! it only took about two hours for the smell to start. I was like, "what the hell is that smell" then I realized it was the after aroma of asper grass.
-
I defy anyone to get this type of insight on any other sports website.
-
wtf is a deep fried asparagus.
-
exactly what you just typed. its asparagus that is deep fried!!!! wow you are amazing
-
People give you money for doing this?
I'm not even appalled. Congrats on gettin' that papa! -
"The chances of Pat walking away with a win in this contest are slim to none" Joey joey joey, the worst thing an athlete can do is underestimate their opponent, didnt catch the sixers/pistons game on sat eh?
-
Yeahh.... I don't think it is possible to get in the head of an entire team, but individual competition is different. There are competitors that rise to a challenge and there are eaters that can be convinced they cannot win. Even though I don't need to be, I am in pat's head. haha
Mind games aside, Pat is a great eater and if I do not go into this contest hungry he will win.

yes he definitely recognizes u as the "favorite". but seems to think he can take the title if u are dont bting your A game
-
After a competition how do you find it within you to eat that same food ever again?
-
Go Joey! :) Bring home the trophy for the 4th year in a row!
-
3 minutes to get it down, how long to get it out? I gotta believe in is faster than out
-
Good luck to you Joey and also good luck to Pat. I hope you win though in this Joey because it is in your home state afterall.
Do you think you will hit the 10 lb mark in the asparagus contest?
Wish me luck with my contest at the Sweet Corn Fiesta this weekend. I am going to try and win a title in my home state of Florida. I can read the headlines now. "Joey and Hall win vegetable world titles in their home states this weekend." That would be great! Later bro. -
Wow I like asparagus, but not THAT much. how do you not throw up?
-
I wonder how long before you start to experience major health problems
-
Hahaha thats awesome! I gotta try this. Hopefully I can compete with you one day Joey :)
-
Good job man. That's some impressive sheet.
