Miami Marlins Bringing Back Ace Prospect Eury Perez to Big League Roster

The Miami Marlins enter play on Sunday at 58-54 on the season and 0.5 games back in the National League wild card race.

As they chase their first playoff appearance since 2020, they are set to bring back ace pitching prospect Eury Perez.

The Marlins are expected to recall Perez from Double-A Pensacola to have him start Monday in Cincinnati, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

ANALYSIS
Perez was optioned to Double-A shortly before the All-Star break in an effort for the Marlins to manage his workload, but after returning to action July 26 and making two abbreviated starts for Pensacola, he looks ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. Even though he's set to return to Miami, the 20-year-old right-hander will likely have some starts skipped and could transition to a relief role at some point...

This all makes sense, as last week we heard that the team was "creating a path" to bringing him back to the roster.

The 20-year-old has some of the best stuff of any young pitcher in baseball. He's gone 5-3 for Miami this year with a 2.36 ERA through 11 starts and has struck out 61 batters in 53.1 innings, so he'll be a big boost to the Marlins staff in any role.

Miami is taking on the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon in Arlington.
